Season 3 - Zurg
Steel and I have been fleshing out Zurg, since he's a character that interests us a lot, but we'd like input from the rest of you, so this is the place to talk about him.
Things we've settled on:
Any ideas that you may have to further flesh out his background will be appreciated and taken into consideration.
We want to use him in the Evilyear plot Doc mentioned in the other thread, as we'd like to have that as the main plot of the series (with several side plots thrown in, of course). Our plan is for Zurg to start off as the Big Bad, but then be eclipsed by Evilyear, who is up to no good as usual, threatening the galaxy's safety, which forces Zurg to work alongside Star Command to defeat him. We were wondering what should happen to Zurg after the plot is resolved. Does he remain in power? Is he defeated? Does he reform? Whaaaat?
Ideas and suggestions are welcomed~.
Things we've settled on:
- He is an alien, and his "mask" is actually his face.
- He is most likely suffering from a high level of bipolar disorder.
- He was exiled/abandoned by his people.

Re: Season 3 - Zurg
Some great ideas, especially the idea of him being exiled to the outskirts of the Galactic Alliance. Perhaps someone could do an episode of him/Buzz returning to the empire he came from, with ol' bucket head potentially conquering and enslaving the empire that disgraced him at last.
Speaking of bucket heads, I like the idea of his helmet being his face, but remember that his "face" came off as a helmet in The Crawling Flesh. I do know, however, that in my designs for Zurg the alien, I retained some of the most iconic aspects of his armour in his design, such as his facial design, horns, shoulder and chest armour etc., so perhaps Zurg doesn't look too dissimilar to the armour he wears.
I really don't know about the main plot though - as evil as Evilyear is (it's even in his nickname), I can't see the main threat of the series being anyone other than Zurg. I wouldn't oppose Evilyear still having huge prominence, however, but having him eclipse Zurg seems a bit strong. It's already implied that Evilyear is plenty more evil than Zurg in the main series, and I think that just keeps him as being a threatening phantom of a figure, rather than an all-out conqueror.

Oh! Well, if the Evilyear plot is going to be the main plot, guess I'll have to be top mark with my writing, then.
As your concern Olivus, my idea for this plot was that Evilyear would mostly be working on his schemes and goal in a kind of "behind-the-scenes" way, and would only really be an outright threat to the entire galaxy for one, maybe two episodes at the most. Until that happens, the majority of any "team-ups" between Star Command and Zurg's forces would most likely be a case of being in the same place at the same time while going after the same target, and extenuating circumstances forcing them to work together instead of merely fighting.

Re: Season 3 - Zurg
To be honest, the whole thing could fit in pretty well - a bit like how NOS seems to be hanging around the galaxy between his debut episode and his climatic final episode. Evilyear already has this too - after each episode he survives, and we go back to sleeping of fear of him stalking the galaxy...
But yes, Evilyear's plan could be something that underlies a number of episodes, and we could have two or so where he appears with his threats. I just feel like Zurg needs to remain the be-all and end-all threat, even if that means that he doesn't really cause much trouble until the series finale (which we'll discuss nearer the time).

Re: Season 3 - Zurg
I'll leave the rest of you to work out the details of the plot, since I'm pretty much happy to go along with whatever plot we choose. ![Smile](https://2img.net/i/fa/i/smiles/icon_smile.gif)
As for his face not changing in The Crawling Flesh, that's something that doesn't make sense no matter how you look at it. If it's a helmet, why did it stay unchanged while the rest of his suit seems to melt? And why is it now stiff and unmoving, whereas in the past it's been extremely expressive? On the other hand, as you pointed out, if it's his face, why didn't it melt like the rest of him? I know this may seem like a cop-out, but since there doesn't seem to be any way to make sense of what happened to Zurg in that episode, I tend to ignore it. If anyone has any way of explaining it, I'd be happy to listen!![Smile](https://2img.net/i/fa/i/smiles/icon_smile.gif)

Re: Season 3 - Zurg
I think I'm leaning more towards him being exiled myself. Perhaps, seeing as he talks about his Mother and Nana, they were the ones who committed some sort of crime to merit exile, and because there was no one else to take care of him or wanted to take care of him, he joined them in exile? Although my personal theory is that they weren't as evil as he makes them out to be; those are products of his deteriorating mental state and having devoted himself to his evil lifestyle.
Also, maybe his people live in another galaxy from the Galactic Alliance's. I think it's plausible for a highly-advanced race (Guzelian, anyone?) to be able to travel from one galaxy to another--and exile to another galaxy far, far away would be ideal.
It's always possible! /silly

I find myself agreeing with Olivus. Zurg is the main villain of the show, and to have him "overthrown" would be dishonourable. NOS already did that once (or so we are led to believe) so I'm pretty sure Zurg's defences have increased tenfold by then.Senior Doctor Thalassi wrote:...Evilyear would mostly be working on his schemes and goal in a kind of "behind-the-scenes" way, and would only really be an outright threat to the entire galaxy for one, maybe two episodes at the most.
As for the face thing... that's tricky. But I'll agree with Ranger here. His face was always expressive, and suddenly it isn't. Unless it turns out to be something like a mask under a mask...Ranger-Nova wrote:If it's a helmet, why did it stay unchanged while the rest of his suit seems to melt?
