No, I'm not posting the story up here, but I wanted to make a kind of catch-all thread for the thing. Like, Ranger-Nova and maybe KJ (if she ever comes back) and I can discuss it here with more ease than reviews and replies. And so I can announce stuff like this:

FOR GOOD NOW HAS ITS OWN TV TROPES PAGE. http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/FanFic/ForGood

Yes, I have been busy. Very Happy

Ooo! I'll read that page in a minute. So, you gonna be posting anymore chapters soon?

By the way, I'm very mad at you. You just HAD to mention in your last chapter that Sherlock Holmes is in the public domain. That got me thinking, 'Well, then the stories are probably available for free online' so I looked, and I found them. Now I'm hooked! I've finished "A Study in Scarlet" and am on "The Sign of Four". But I digress...

So, how's the writing going? You started on the next chapter yet? I can't wait to find out what happens. Smile

Ha-ha, that's the same reaction I had to my BFF when she told me she was writing Sherlock Holmes fanfiction! That was September '10. My life has not been the same since. Very Happy

THAT'S TERRIFIC THAT YOU'RE HOOKED! (And, whenever you want to start reading Sherlockian fanfic, you can just check out my FF.N profile - there be many, many Sherlock Holmes stories. ;D)

Actually, I've had several false starts on the next chapter, but now I think I finally have a base to work from. Glad you're so hooked on Breakaway, too! xD

As soon as I've finished reading the all the Sherlock Holmes stories (I've just finished The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes), I'll definitely check out your fanfiction. Smile

I look forward to the next chapter of Breakaway.

Oh, by the way, could you give me a description of Erin? I glanced through the story, but couldn't find one. I've been playing around in CorelDRAW, and would like to try my hand at drawing her. I've been converting BLoSC screenshots into vectors, and now I'd like to do something more challenging.

*EDIT*

Found some old artwork (by you, I'm guessing) of Erin, so I did a drawing on her based on a pic called Summer Vacation.

Here's my rather bad vector!Erin: For Good: To Breakaway and Beyond! Erin

Good grief, how did I never see this post? That's an adorable pic, darlin'! "Summer Vacation" was mine, yes - Saron/darkangelfly posted up a lot of OLD artwork for me on her account. Come to think of it, noooo, there are very few, if any, full descriptions of Erin out there - which would've screamed MARY SUE! anyway.

Anyhow....

I thought I’d post here… kind of for the fun of it. Just some stuff I was thinking I’d like to say about For Good, and Breakaway specifically.

For starters, the three “Stars”: Star Trek, Star Wars, and Stargate SG-1. The influence of these shows upon my little epic cannot be overrated—it’s enormous. For Good is shaping up to be a Star Trek-like galaxy, possessing Star Wars thematic overtones, in Stargate SG-1-esque situations and dynamics. Of course, that’s really simplifying it—the three shows overlap each other’s influences in very big ways.

The “partnership” between Erin and Ricki is being billed as Kirk and Spock, but, on the other hand, with Skywalker and Kenobi flare. Dorm-team 76 figures out and plays out their similarities to the TOS crew of the Enterprise, but their personalities and dynamics are also very analogous to the SG-1 team. Windy is the only dorm-mate who is a blatant take on a Trek character: the infamous Dr. McCoy. She takes that role very seriously and loves to call Ricki a “green-blooded hobgoblin.”

Erin, Ricki, and Windy are all very Genre Savvy—pretty much Dangerously so—and in that they very much take after Stargate SG-1. Ice is like Teal’c, in that she comes to the team Genre Blind. What is Genre Savvy? Well, basically, it means that characters who are genre savvy aren’t going to make dumb mistakes because they learn from the dumb mistakes of other heroes/villains/etc. in fiction. Stargate SG-1 plays this very heavily… and Dorm-team 76 loves to do likewise.

Dorm-team 95 is still being worked out, but Eda-Ji-Kep is the other blatant take on a sci-fi character: in this case, Teal’c of SG-1. Like Ice, he is also Genre Blind.

And then you have the fact that Breakaway shifted focus, in the middle of the fic, from Erin and Team Lightyear to Erin and her fellow cadets. It’s almost like the fic has two separate parts: pre-Academy and Academy. It wasn’t really meant to be that way, originally, but it turned out that way and it’s turning out to be fantastic. This wasn’t meant to be an OC-heavy fic—it was just supposed to have an OC setting the Ripple Effect into motion in Team Lightyear and Warp Darkmatter. But now the story’s gotten to be so that it doesn’t need the canon characters to be a good read, and it’s all because of Erin. It’s because this is her story, her author is not ashamed of that fact, and her author is, in fact, having a blast with a fresh, young cast.

As a rule, I don’t like OC-heavy fanfics… so it’s incredibly ironic that that’s what I’ve ended up with!

And there’s still my big, dark, secret past for Zurg and Zomega… and even Warp… that has yet fully to see the light of day. I can’t help dropping hints, but even those are less informative than they… well, make the reader wonder even more, I think. People know by now that FG!Zurg is an alien cyborg, and that Zomega’s heavily involved with his past (you can read as much on dA, now), but Warp… Warp’s not who you think he is. Rather, he’s not what you think he is. He’s not what his actions in the canon lead you to believe.

So yeah, I’m crazy. But, y’know what? I could not care less. For the first time in a very, very long time, I’m having the time of my life writing for BLoSC. I’m writing what I love how I love to write it, so I’m really having a ball!

/end rant
