Nos- really British?

Post by Pythonmelon on Fri Sep 07, 2012 5:25 pm

I was just rewatching Nos-4-a2 when this hit me- Noy's british accent isnt all that british. Especially in the first episode you can hear Craig Ferguson's accent faulter so that Nos sounds irish. A good example would be this quote-

"Realax commander, you're off duty'

This was also a point someone else had made on DA, that maybe he was irish in the first place instead of british and it wasn't just Craig's accent coming through.

Actually, Craig Ferguson may be of Irish descent (he said this in one of his more recent shows), but he's from Scotland originally, he is officially Scottish, and his normal accent is Scottish. However, he was using his "English" accent for NOS-4-A2's voice.

Technically, both Scotland and England are part of Great Britain, meaning that regardless it was a British accent overall.

Personally, I always thought that the "Relax Commander" line was vaguely Cockney, I believe? I never remember which British accent is which, but my point is that his accent IS British.

Of course, if you take into account that the BLoSC universe doesn't actually have a England, Scotland, OR Ireland, and that NOS-4-A2 was made on Planet Z, you can't actually say that NOS-4-A2 is of any Earth nationality, just that his accent reminds us of one of them. ^^;

Ah, yes right. And I apologize I had meant Scottish. Wonderful point.

Is it possible maybe that Earth may have joined the galactic alliance and that it is pread over several galaxies? Then the accents would be accounted for even if not named

While NOS' accent is mostly English in the series, there are a few times, like the one you noted Pythonmelon, when he switches to a slightly more Cockney accent, like you said Alexa. Another example is in Dirty Work when he says "I hate veggies!" after biting one of the Rhizomian suits. The 'h' is very faint and he says the line in a much more informal manner, reminiscent of a Cockney accent.

I think they made NOS English to get away from the whole Romanian, "I vant to suck your bluud! Bluh!" way of speaking that has become heavily associated with vampires over the years, whilst giving him an accent that's relatively new to the character archetype, and makes him no less (if not more) intimidating. I think that's what NOS was always about - something fresh and clever, but not too dissimilar to classic concepts.

Ty makes a reference in Wirewolf to Alpha Centauri, one of the closest stars to our Sun (the closest is Proxima Centauri, which is only slightly closer), and says "No one ever finds that place", indicating that Capital Planet's star system is some distance from our Solar System. That's not to say that Earth isn't part of the Galactic Alliance, however! Perhaps astronauts and explorers spread across the galaxy from our planet, bringing with them Earth culture via colonies of humans.

I actually think that NOS-4-A2 was ment to be German. Nosferatu, the Vampire he was based on, was a german vampire. By the way NOS-4-A2´s accenet is very hard like a german one (I have the same accent).
