"Well, what do you expet him to do?" Renee asked. "He's been photographed, photographed his kid, and is now photographing his grand kid. It'd predictable- itw what he's been doing all his life." The zephyrite shrugged. "So just find him a new hobby."

As they children spread out, tucking into corners behind vases and under beds, Neil was left alone to find them.

"You know, you're suppost to be taking my side as a fellow mother." Jill said as she raised her eyebrow at Renee.

Neil looked around the room for the kittens. This wasn't like playing with Daddy, Grampy or Ed in which they always stood out in the room.

"I know, I know," The zephyrite smirked. "But, Jill, you know me better than that." Her friend did know her better than that. Even if she didn't like lightyear she could still make fun of it.

Avaric was the best at hiding and sank in between the couch cushions, dissapearing. Now this was a game he could get into! Maverick slipped in behind the bookcase.

Jill smiled a bit at this and sipped her coffee. "How's Mary taking to the kittens lately?"

Neil looked around for the missing kittens and whined a bit. What if he couldn't find them? What if they hid forever and were never found? And he would be blamed for it?

"She loves them to death." Renee frowned to herself, ears folding back. "It's great, but she's still all sour to me. How am I going to prove that I'm not some evil she-beast that's out to get her?"

Ginger's tail was stuck out from under the desk in her room a little bit. It flicked back and forth. she was so proud of herself.

"She probably sences him on you." Jill explained as she noticed it got quiet in the other room.

Neil wasn't looking where he was going as his foot stepped down on Ginger's tail.

Renee crossed her arms on the table. She frowned. "How could she? I haven't seen him since the day I got married." It was rediculous.

Ginger screeched in pain, half-hissing. She leapt out from under the bed and wrapped her arms around neil's legs in shock, but didnt scratch him. she didn't have retractable claws like her mothers. After calming down, she let go and blushed, giggling, as she stroked down her fur.

"She sences evil." Jill explained. "Be it long gone or still lingering on a person." She said oh so wisely. The two jumped as Ginger's screeched and Neil's follow-up screaming pierced the air. "NEIL?" Jill yelled as she jumped to her feet and ran to her son.

Renee gasped and looked surprised. She ignored Jill's comment, ad pushed back the table to run after her girl. Well, one of her girls. "Ginger?" She ran into the kid's room.

"Uh..." Ginger looked embarrased at her loss of composure. "Sorry, Neil."

Jill ran in and scooped her crying son up in her arms. She comfurt the boy as she looked him over. No scratches or cuts. She sighed as she rubbed his back. "Shhh sweetie, it's okay."

Renee picked up Ginger, cradling her. The kitten finally sniffled and held her tail. Her mother looked at it, smiling that nothing was broken or bruised. "It's okay baby girl. What happened?" She asked calmly.

The other kittens, figuring that the game was over, came out of hiding.

"I think Ginger just spooked Neil." Jill said as she rubbed her son's back as the little boy hiccuped and hugged his mother's neck.

"Oh, thats fine." She kissed her daughter on the nose and, like magic, it was all better. Problem solved by the moms again.

--a few weeks later--

Renee laid her head down on the table next to kipper's cage, sobbing quietly. It was two in the morning, but she couldnt help herself.

"Renee?" Judus asked as he walked in, he had awoken as he noticed his wife wasn't in bed next to him. "What's wrong?"

Neil slept quietly in his bed as Ed laid next to him, head resting next to the child's body. He would stay there all night, making sure that Neil was 100% safe.

Renee looked up, wiping tears out of her fur. "Kip... kipper just got too old, I guess." She didn't want to open the cage, or touch the marten's cold form. At least he had gone peacefully and not from sickness.

Judus looked a loss for words as he soaked what she had said in. "Oh...oh Renee..." He hugged her close to him and he fought off tears of his own.

Ed's ears perked up at the creeking floor boards and gave a dark, low growl as if to say, 'Who's there?'

Renee had owned Kipper since her eighteenth birthday. At least towards the end he had finally accepted the kids. He had lived... oh... nine years. only nine. She broke down and sobbed again. "I miss him"

"Shh, shh." Judus treid to comfort her. "I do too. But...he's in a better place now." He kissed her head and looked to the little body in the cage. "We...we should give him a proper burial."

Ed stopped growling as he caught Myka's scent and laid his head back down next to Neil's body. The little boy draped his arm on the big dog's head.

Renee nuzzled Judus slowly. "Yeah... in the morning." The woman coughed into her paw, trying to control herself. "I don't think I can go back to bed with him in here." She looked back at the cage. She felt bad that he was here, watching her een in his permanent sleep.

Judus got up and pulled a nice jewelry box from the closet and a silken scarf before heading over to the cage. Gently he picked the little marten up and wrapped him, like a baby, into the soft material before laying him in the box.

"Is the guard dog still on duty?" Jill asked as she wrapped her arms around Myka's waist from behind.

Renee watched, wiping more tears out of her eye. She peeked into the box and saw him, laying there all sweet and pretty with that grey ring of fur around his muzzle. She busted into tears again.

Judus held her close and finally broke into tears himself. The little marten was like their first born child, they had raised him together and it was because of him that they even had children. Now he was gone.

Renee wrapped herself in his arms, pressing her face against her husbands chest. She continued to cry, even as she went to lay down. They really had lost their first 'child'. Even if he had become a pouty old thing, he had only been nine. Nine.

Renee looked over at the box one more time before retreating under the bedcovers. "What are we going to tell the kids?" She asked, whimpering.

Myka suddenly went kind of limp in the way he held her, like a rag doll. "Really?" He looked surprised, but was open to the idea.
