Kaito Yamaki Empty Kaito Yamaki

I originally created this character as a technomancer (more on that later) for a Shadowrun RPG. Then it occurred to me that some of the setting in Shadowrun was kind of like Trade World. So with a few tweaks, I brought Kaito Yamaki to visit the BLoSC-verse.

Name: Kaito "Kite" Yamaki
Species: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 15
Birth Date: March 1
Birthplace/Homeworld: Trade World
Blood Type: A-
Family: adoptive parents, Yoshie (mother) and Takashiro (father)
Friends: Savy SL2, his sprites
Position: High school student
Alignment: Neutral
Appearance: Kaito is about 5' 5" tall, slim, bony and flexible. His hair is black and looks like he hasn't had it cut in a while, with his bangs covering his bright blue eyes. His expression is generally one of calm amusement, like he's picking out his next target. He generally dresses in black and grey, complete with a trench coat on colder and rainier days. He has three piercings on his left ear and some old scars on his back from his abusive years.

Likes: rock music, pranks, gothic literature and movies, noodles
Dislikes: boredom, violence, people who are full of themselves (though they make splendid targets), country music
Hobbies: reading, meditating (helps him clear his head), pulling pranks, daydreaming
Quirks: insomniac, headaches, migraines, talking to himself, snarking

Abilities: technomancer - meaning he can basically connect to computers and the internet with his mind, by means of a biological node maintained by his brain that transmits a resonance unique to him. Using a sort of projection called a persona he can move about and manipulate technology intuitively and however he wishes. He can also create temporary AI programs called sprites to help him out. His powers also make him more empathetic to machines.
In real life he is nimble and quick on his feet to make up for his lack of combat ability and low strength and durability. He's also quite perceptive and an adept communicator.
Weaknesses: he's sensitive to the data and signals that pass through the air, making it difficult for him to sleep and focus sometimes, though meditation helps him fix that. He also gets agitated when he's cut off from those signals for too long, because after a while it became a natural part of him to have that dull roar going through his mind. He's also vulnerable to technological attacks which cause his persona to crash, leaving him dizzy at best and knocked out for hours trying to reboot.
He's also a poor physical combatant, though Savy is trying to teach him how to use a blaster for protection. He also has a fear of hospitals and anything touching his head or neck born from his early childhood. Emotionally, he's attached to his adoptive parents and anyone he considers a friend, and he would do anything to help them if they were in trouble.

Personality: Despite his dark outward appearance, Kaito is a generally upbeat and happy sort of person. He feels at home when he's connected to the Internet, machines, and anything else technological. He's quick to adapt, friendly, and frightfully intelligent. He can also be cautious, secretive, quirky, and ready to misdirect anyone he thinks could be a threat to his life or the lives of anyone he cares about. Sometimes he ends up making mistakes and getting into trouble by tricking the wrong sort of people. He is also a bit of a karmic trickster, ready to use his technomancer abilities to screw over people who are too full of themselves. He's not a malicious type of person, though the people he screws over don't usually respond positively to his pranks. Lately he's been getting a bit too bold, and some people have been searching for him, though he isn't aware of it yet.
He doesn't talk about what happened to him before his current parents adopted him. In fact, he didn't speak for a year after he was adopted. Fortunately Yoshie and Takashiro were very patient and very kind to him. As far as he knows he doesn't have a biological father, and his mother died after leaving him with his current parents. From those early years he carries emotional scars, a fear of anything touching his neck and feeling like he can't breathe.
When his powers kept developing, he lost a lot of sleep due to wireless signals constantly invading his mind. He didn't understand what was happening or how to stop it until he realized he could actually control some devices by mere thought. He watched Yoshie, his adoptive mother, meditating and decided to give it a try. It helped him clear his mind, though he still gets insomnia every now and again.
His abilities make him more sensitive to machines and robots, which Trade World has in abundance. He treats them all like people, and he's gained a few friends as a result. He's heard tales of the energy vampire NOS-4-A2 and how he drained and manipulated countless innocent robots. With his abilities permitting him to do some things like that, he's afraid other robots would get the wrong idea and shun him. He doesn't want to manipulate anyone into doing his bidding, he just wants to be friends. Besides, it's only polite to ask. If anyone does try to figure it out, his plan is simply to deny everything.
He's the weird kid in school. He gets philosophical, he talks about death and horror, and he seems very calm, if ridiculously dramatic during his sillier moments. He hides what he's thinking and feeling under a guise of mystery, humor and eccentricity. No one even knows about his technomancer abilities except his parents, though that's bound to change very soon. He's afraid someone will find him and cut up his brain to figure out how his abilities work. He's afraid of losing both the normal life he has with his family and the playful freedom he has on the network.

Well, what do you guys think? Any good?

Wow...that's quite an interesting character you have there, Rook! Kite sounds like a very interesting person, indeed! ^^

When did you come up with the character?

Some time in the past month when my interests kind of overlapped. I was getting back to nostalgic cartoons with BLoSC, and then I heard about Shadowrun and started reading the player's handbook to create a character. Things in my brain clicked together when I started pondering the robot sub-culture in BLoSC and AI in Shadowrun. I saw a fun possibility of a missing link between robots and humans in BLoSC and I went with it. I did come up with some fan-fic ideas, which I will hopefully get around to.

Still not sure if I'll get to play Kite in a campaign, though. School just got busy. >.<

Oh, cool! That's a creative idea you have; to link robots and humans in BLoSC. And I like the effort you put into the creation of Kite. Well done! ^^

Yeah, we're all busy with school/work/other RL matters. Oi...-_-
