...Strange question, but how do you pronounce "Rikaena"? I automatically pronounce "ae" as a long I, so I'm reading it as "rih-KIGH-nuh", but I'm pretty sure that's wrong. I know you said she doesn't like to be called this name, but I'd still like to know for the heck of it. ^^;

Rih-KAY-nuh maybe? That's how I pronounced it in my head.

Almost correct, Ranger-Nova! It would really be rih-KAY-nah, but most people would pronounce it as "nuh" at the end anyway, so... *shrugs and grins*

And personality! *facepalm* Knew I was missing something!

Erin and Ice, knowing and sharing in Ricki's Sherlockian obsessions, would say that Ricki has Sherlock's intelligence but Watson's personality. In other words, Ricki doesn't want to be a leader unless she has to be - she'd much rather play the part of the sidekick.
She's typically good-humored and, when she and the girls are "roleplaying" Star Trek, will let Windy get away with calling her a "green-blooded hobgoblin." The girls will joke about Ricki playing Spock to Erin's Kirk, but Ricki is much closer in personality to Major Samantha Carter of Stargate SG-1.
Ricki is dedicated, hardworking, and ambitious, but she also likes to have fun. Being knowledgeable, quick-witted, and funny, she makes a terrific conversationalist.
Her currently greatest pet-peeve is Windy bashing Sherlock Holmes, because, after all, one does not bash a fangirl's hero.

Whoa, wait a second. Was she a child prodigy or something? I doubt anybody could enter college at 14 and have an astrophysics degree (given the level of technology and knowledge in the BLoSCverse) at 19. 'Cause to have a Master's degree requires at least 6 years of study minimum. And that's for regular degrees.

Also... Sherlock Holmes, Star Trek, Stargate SG-1... I don't see how she would like these things. Sure, she might have an interest in human history and have heard of these things vaguely, but... think of Homer. Of Roman classics, etc. I highly doubt that in 1000 years into the future (if we're going with BLoSC being in the future, which I think we are) people would still like these willingly. Or that everything pertaining to them will have been properly salvaged.

Otherwise, I really like the idea of you using an existing species in the show for your character and like the idea of her being interested in the investigation part of being a Space Ranger. What's her culture like? Have you thought that up yet? I'd be curious to hear more about it.

I also really like her name! Smile

I do have a bit of backstory, at least, developed for the Derriyans, but that will have to wait for a future date. I am glad that you like that I’m using a pre-existing race (and that you like her name!). Right now, my focus with Ricki is fleshing her out, contrasting her with her dorm-mates, and developing her very important friendship with Erin.

Actually, I do have precedents for both the astrophysics bit and the Earth culture bit.
